This selection of 29 papers grew out of a symposium entitled "Setting the longer term schedule for Neotropical Primates. " The symposium used to be held on the division of Zoo logical examine, nationwide Zoological Park, Washington D. C. , on February 26-27, 1994, and was once backed by way of the Wenner-Gren starting place for Anthropological examine, Smith sonian establishment, and acquaintances of the nationwide Zoo. We placed the symposium including targets: to honor Warren G. Kinzey for his contributions to the starting to be box of platyrrhine reviews and to supply researchers who paintings within the Neotropics with the oppor tunity to debate fresh advancements, to spot components of study that require extra research, and particularly to assist advisor the subsequent iteration of researchers. The symposium supplied the chance to acknowledge Warren as a mentor and col laborator to the contribution of the research of platyrrhines. Contributions to the e-book have been improved with a purpose to supply a extra complete view of platyrrhine evolution and ecology, to stress the interdisciplinary nature of lots of those stories, and to excessive gentle the critical function that New international monkeys play in advancing primatology. If this vol ume have been to require significant revisions after only one extra decade of study, that might be a becoming testomony to Warren's enthusiasm and his force to continually replace the sector with new rules and techniques. Tributes to Warren and an inventory of his courses were released in different places (Norconk, 1994, 1996; Rosenberger 1994, 1995).

What is perhaps more significant is the lack Leontopithecus in Espirito Santo. The distribution of this genus is the most highly fragmented of any of the Atlantic forest primates (Fig. 2) and yet adequate habitat exists today, for example, along the lowland coastal region extending from southern Bahia (L. chrysomelas) to Rio de Janeiro (L. rosalia). Leontopithecus is restricted to lowland forests, and the possible explanation for the lack of lion tamarins in Espirito Santo would be the opposite of the supposition of Kinzey (1982) of the existence of forest refuge north of the Rio Doce: that is, a hiatus was caused by the loss of forests in the lowland regions, then restricted to the mountainous interior, supposedly during a Pleistocene dry period.

Hill (1960), however, described its distribution as eastern Brazil, from southern Bahia (Rio Jucurucu), through Espirito Santo (Colatina, Rio Piracicaba, Rio Sussui, Rio Doce) to Rio de Janeiro and westwards into Minas Gerais (Rio Matipo). However, Kinzey's (1982) analysis placed the form C.
